Goody Two Shoes and all the other cliches and puns that the Indian media will have a field day with…

August 18, 2008

So Jade Goody is comfortably ensconced inside Big Boss’ Indian house. I watched the first episode of Endemol’s (in)famous reality series y’day night on Colors. Must admit, I just stumbled on it while channel surfing, switching between Jimmy Kimmel live and Bog Boss from time to time.  More on the former later. Shilpa Shetty in her red sari looked like she was ready to join a baraati- band after she finished with the show.

Mademoiselle Shetty proceeded to introduce all the contestants one by one and although I had heard from friends that Colors had lined up better contestants than Sony had managed last year, I didn’t quite agree with that, after the final line-up was announced. Sony had a better line-up of people. As contestants were introduced one by one by lissome Shetty, I struggled to figure out who these people were… Sambhavna who? Some Ms. Wadia as well, I recognized one of the comedians from the great laughter show, Ketki Dave I know, Zulfi Sayed, I’ve heard, Rahul Mahajan (someone please tell me why he was dressed like a butler and behaving the part, showing everyone around the  house…) That’s it, and Ms Goody of course, looking fresh off the surgeon’s table. Big Boss Indian edition is Ms Goody’s chance to improve her celebrity quotient from the far depths it had sunk to, post her exit from the London edition of the show, last year. I can almost picture it, irrespective of the results of her eventual performance during the show: Goody to write memoirs on Indian experience, Goody to star in Bollywood project: Goody to shake a leg in item number:  Goody to take part in Koffee with Karan…the list goes on. And of course, Goody will appear in countless news television interviews after her release/win from Big Boss, talking about how this experience changed her. If there’s anyone who looks like they have a fair chance of winning the prize, it’s probably the English Ms Goody, given her previous two stints in the English edition, as also the fact that she may not be able to communicate as well as others due to her language problems. No talking, no problems, right? Look at the previous year’s winner- Rahul Roy. I hardly remember him talking, during the entire season. Of course, it’s wrong to jump to conclusions, humble apologies, unexpected winners have emerged before.
